1 'critical' in east Bakersfield shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - One person was hospitalized after being shot in east Bakersfield.

Kern County deputies were called to the 3100 block of Lexington Avenue around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday. They say they found 34-year-old Raul Contreras with a gunshot wound.

Contreras was taken to a local hospital, and rushed into emergency surgery in "critical condition," according to the sheriff's office.

Homicide detectives were called to investigate the scene, due to the extent of Contreras' injuries. Investigators offered no suspect information Tuesday morning.
