2 arrested in Bakersfield police chases

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Two men were arrested after a pair of vehicle chases Thursday morning in central Bakersfield.

An officer tried conducting a traffic stop at Truxtun Avenue and F Street. The driver didn't stop, but crashed into a law building a short distance away at Truxtun and C Street, police said.

The passenger, 23-year-old Daniel Peck, got out and surrendered to officers, but the driver, 33-year-old Philip Hildago, ran from police and jumped into an unoccupied gardener's truck.

Hildago led officers on a chase through parts of downtown, onto northbound Highway 99, and onto Airport Drive. He stopped on the ramp to Golden State Avenue.

A discard gun, ammunition and drugs were found, police said.

Hildago was arrested on suspicion of evading, resisting arrest, carjacking, possession of a controlled substance, and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Peck was arrested for violation of probation.
