Arson suspected in fire that destroyed vacant home
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Arson is suspected in a fire that destroyed a vacant home Wednesday afternoon on River Boulevard near Jeffrey Street.
A fire patrol traveling just after 4 p.m. on River Boulevard noticed the smoke and called for more equipment, said city Battalion Chief Benji Snider.
The first arriving crew noted the fire could threaten nearby structures and expressed concerns about an adequate water supply. But, the fire was quickly controlled.
The home was considered a total loss.
Neighbors reported seeing a couple people inside the vacant home before the fire started. Because of that, Snider said the fire is considered suspicious.
Southbound traffic on River was shut down for about one hour between Jeffrey and Height streets to keep traffic from interfering with emergency equipment.
