Autopsy shows man died of a drug overdose in sheriff's custody

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Autopsy results released Sunday show a man who died after a struggle with sheriff's deputies on June 17 succumbed to an accidental drug overdose.

A news release from the Kern County Sheriff's Office said 25-year-old Wilfredo Ramos' death has been ruled accidental and was caused by methamphetamine intoxication.

Additional tests were ordered after an autopsy on June 18.

Ramos died at a hospital after his arrest. Ambulance personnel told deputies they found baggies of suspected meth in Ramos' throat. And deputies said they saw Ramos trying to dispose of suspected drugs while they were in the 1900 block of South J Street making a felony warrant arrest.
