Bakersfield police search for grand theft auto suspect

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK-KBFX) The Bakersfield Police Department has asked for the public's help in locating a suspect wanted for grand theft auto and possession of stolen property.

On Feb. 9, the man allegedly attempted to steal a white Honda in the Sears parking lot at the Valley Plaza Mall.

The suspect, described as a white male in his 20s with a thin build and a black baseball cap, entered the Honda by unknown means and attempted to steal the vehicle.

The Honda's steering wheel was equipped with an anti-theft device, which prevented the suspect from stealing the car.

The suspect then entered a black 1998 Honda Civic, which was previously reported stolen, and fled the scene.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Dennis Murphy at 661-326-3567 or the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
