Bakersfield shoppers get head start on Black Friday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Shoppers are already lined up outside the Best Buy on Rosedale Highway.

The store is set to open early at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving with the usual Black Friday deals.

Some shoppers, such as Luis Laguna, have been in line since last Friday morning. He's first in line.

Eva Recentio is in her 12th year of the Black Friday camp-out.

"We're usually second," she said, "no later than third in line."

It's an off year for her. She's fifth in line.

Recentio alternates seven hour shifts with her son. She said it's a tradition.

Best Buy expects a line of at least 2,000 Thursday night. General Manager Bret Nelson said they've doubled their security and hired off-duty police officers.

The store will have 32 registers open and more than 60 employees were hired for the holiday.
