Bakersfield Walmart closed most of day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Walmart customers were surprised to find the Rosedale location turning customers away at the door.

"They said they are having construction problems. It's a little frustrating and inconvenient," said Stephanie Dretel, who went to the store Thursday afternoon to do her shopping.

According to Walmart spokesperson Kayla Whaling, the store is being remodeled, and Wednesday night they closed at 9 for scheduled maintenance to the front-end registers. Due to a glitch, Whaling said they were unable to open the store Thursday morning.

Employees at the store said they were outside most of the day informing customers of the closure before they got out of their cars to make it easier for them.

"We're going to Target," said shopper Ruth Freeman.

The Walmart store was reopened by 3 p.m. Thursday.
