Big rig crashes with Amtrak train, pickup

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A semitruck crashed with a pickup and was then hit by an Amtrak train Monday just south of Delano.

The California Highway Patrol said the big rig driver rear-ended the pickup in the area of Pond Road and Highway 43. The big rig driver swerved to avoid more damage and flipped onto the railroad tracks.

The driver was able to get out of the cab without extensive injuries before a northbound Amtrak train crashed into the bumper area of the cab of his truck.

The train wasn't damaged in a meaningful way. The tracks were shut down, but roadways remain open.
