The Delano Community Correctional Facility reopened Tuesday.
The facility had closed down in 2011. Now it will house 578 inmates.
Nonviolent Level 2 and Level 3 inmates will be housed at this facility.
Assemblyman Rudy Salas says this will create 89 direct and permanent jobs, and 25 ancillary jobs in Delano.
"We know what the unemployment rate is for Kern County," said Salas, "it's still double-digit in Delano, so this brings jobs."
Officials hope to have the lockup fully staffed by the end of the month. Delano officials said they are still hiring.
