Deputy DA: Attorney to be charged with murder of wife
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A Bakersfield DUI attorney will be charged next week with first-degree murder, according to prosecutors.
Attorney Mark Madrigali was jailed following the June 12 shooting of his wife in their home on Telegraph Avenue. Madrigali was named as the shooting suspect and charged initially with attempted murder, assault with a gun and spousal abuse.
Madrigali told police that the shooting "was an accident," according to court documents. His wife, Trivia Madrigali, was found lying face down in a pool of blood on the living room floor. Police recovered numerous weapons at the home and said Madrigali used a shotgun to shoot his wife.
Trivia Madrigali died Wednesday morning, nearly a month after the shooting.
Friday, Deputy District Attorney Gina Pearl said an amended complaint will be filed Monday morning, charging Madrigali with first-degree murder with an enhancement of personal use of a firearm. Pearl also said prosecutors will file a motion to increase Madrigali's bail to $2 million.
