Driver who lost control of his pickup killed on Coffee Road

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A 25-year-old Bakersfield man was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a tree in the business center off Coffee Road and Truxtun Avenue.

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. "The solo vehicle being driven by an adult male driver was travelling south on Coffee Road near Truxtun Avenue," according to a news release from the Bakersfield Police Department.

The pickup veered across the center median and the northbound lanes of Coffee, then across the sidewalk and into a tree where it overturned and came to a stop in the parking lot of the business center at 600 Coffee Rd.

The driver was later identified by coroner's investigators as Anthony Pina of Bakersfield.

Pina's Facebook profile indicates he worked at Smart&Final and went to high school in Pixley.
