Drug investigators find meth hidden in motel fire extinguishers
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A narcotics investigation ended at a motel on Oak Street with around 9 pounds of methamphetamine found hidden in fire extinguishers and a Mexican national being arrested.
The bust by deputies assigned to the Major Violators Unit of the Kern County Sheriff's Office happened around noon Tuesday at the Travelers Lodge on Oak Street.
The suspect ran out the back door as deputies entered his motel room. Deputies waiting outside nabbed him. Investigators said 32-year-old Luis Perez-Salinas of Guadalajara, Mexico, was carrying a large bag with clothes and three fire extinguishers.
The fire extinguishers were taken to the Kern County Fire Department, where they were cut open. Each extinguisher had a bag inside with about 3 pounds of meth, for a total of approximately 9 pounds.
