Family of man stabbed to death seeks help with burial costs

OILDALE, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) The family of a man killed last Wednesday night in a stabbing in Oildale is asking for help from the community to bury him. They also hope the public helps authorities find the suspect.

"Nobody plans on burying their 23-year-old brother or son," sister Sianie Wallace said Tuesday. "It's so hard for our family right now."

Less than a week ago, Caleb Corpe was stabbed to death during a fight outside the Dollar General Store on Roberts Lane in Oildale.

The family and friends washed cars over the weekend to raise money, but said they are still shy of what's needed for the burial.

"We were so thankful, our family is grateful for all of the blessings that we got," Wallace said. She said there were so many kind people. "But, we're still taking donations to Mish Funeral Home right now."

At the carwash, Caleb's wife held their 8-month-old son and struggled with her pain and loss.

"The worst thing that could ever happen to me," Justine Corpe said. And while she's lost her husband, the man accused in the murder still hasn't been caught.

"He was twice the age of Caleb, he lived twice as long as he did, and he took it from him, and he's still walking the streets," Corpe said. "I can't even explain the feelings that it makes me feel."

Sheriff's investigators have named 57-year-old Ronald Burchett as the suspect, but have yet to make an arrest.

Sianie Wallace has heard Burchett is homeless, and she hopes anyone who spots him will contact authorities.

"I don't even want that guy to get hurt," the sister said. "I want him to go to prison, and I want him to think about what he did every single day."

Wallace said Caleb's death is such a loss.

"He was awesome," she said. "Everybody who knew Caleb loved him, and he wasn't ever afraid to tell you how much he loved you. That's one of the things I'll miss the most about Caleb."

The family says services for Caleb Corpe are planned at 1 p.m. Friday. They say donations can be made to Mish Funeral Home. Their number is (661) 399-9391.

Mish is located at 120 Minner Ave.
