Firefighters busy with spot fires along Hwy 99

{A href=""}BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A "general vehicle malfunction" sparked several grass fires Friday along Highway 99 between White Lane and Panama Road, according to the Bakersfield Fire Department.

Traffic wasn't impacted in a meaningful way.

The fire department said it extinguished the four separate fires in just over an hour.

Kern County Fire Department Capt. Sean Collins said there were about three more small grass fires along Hwy. 99 south to the Interstate 5 split. Collins said they believe a car dragging a metal chain or something similar led to the fire.
