High-speed chase ends in officer-involved shooting

DELANO, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A high-speed chase Saturday ended with an officer-involved shooting at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Browning Road.

Delano police responded to the 2000 block of Girard Street for a report of gang members congregating and possibly vandalizing property. One of the men took off in a pickup, according to police.

The driver, 36-year-old Alejandro Marquez Gonzalez, ran a red light at the intersection just before noon, crashed into another vehicle and then into a fence.

Gonzalez then allegedly started firing on officers as he climbed out of the wreckage.

Officers returned fire and hit Gonzalez twice in the upper body. He was airlifted to a hospital.
