Illegal fireworks seized by task force; 2 arrested

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Hundreds of pounds of illegal fireworks have been seized through an undercover operation headed by Kern County Fire Chief Brian Marshall.

The latest seizure happened Thursday from an east Bakersfield home on Moose Creek Court.

Authorities didn't make it immediately clear if the fireworks in this case were for personal use or for sale.

A seizure earlier in the week netted more than 400 pounds in illegal fireworks. In that case, investigators said the fireworks were being sold out of a car at a gas station on White Lane.
In total over the past few days, investigators seized about 730 pounds of illegal fireworks, the department said Friday.

The minimum citation for possessing an illegal firework is $1,500. Those caught misusing or altering Safe and Sane fireworks, as well as using fireworks outside the designated times, will face a $500 fine.
