Jury: Gangster guilty of murdering 71-year-old woman
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) The final defendant in the death of an elderly woman was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder, second-degree robbery and participating in a street gang.
Christopher Patterson is scheduled for sentencing in November. His two co-defendants, also found guilty in separate jury trials, were previously sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Guadalupe Ramos, 71, was attacked in August 2012 outside the Foods Co. grocery store on Haley Street.
Patterson came up behind Ramos and ripped a gold chain from her neck, according to investigators. That knocked the frail woman to the ground, causing fatal injuries. Ramos suffered emotion-precipitated sudden cardiac death and blows to her trunk and extremities, the coroner's office said.
