Kern County deputies arrest naked man with gun in canal

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A naked Tulare County man was arrested in a canal overnight by Kern County deputies.

Deputies from the sheriff's office substation in Delano were sent to the area of Driver and Whisler roads on a call of a person who had brandished a gun and then ran away on foot. Deputies found what they believe was the gunman's abandoned car.

The sheriff's office tried finding the car's owner, to determine if it was stolen. As the deputies were about to leave the area, a passerby arrived and identified himself as the person who called. The passerby also said he thought the gunman was trying to hide under a nearby canal bridge at Driver Road.

Deputies went to the bridge and could hear someone yelling for help, according to the sheriff's office. Partially in the canal, they saw 26-year-old Adell Evans. He was naked, and his clothes were nearby, the sheriff's office said. A handgun was also lying on the canal bank within feet of Evans, the sheriff's office said.

Evans was pulled from the canal with the help of a sheriff's office search-and-rescue crew. He was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun, felon in possession of ammunition, and possessing a handgun in violation of a court order.
