Man injured in power plant demolition in critical condition
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) The man who had his leg severed during the demolition of a Central California power plant remains in the hospital with severe injuries.
Mary Lisa Russell, a spokeswoman for Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, said on Tuesday that Jerry Wood was in critical condition.
The 43-year-old Bakersfield resident was among five people injured when shrapnel flew past a safety perimeter during Saturday's demolition.
The other four spectators sustained minor injuries.
The steam power plant was owned by the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. The utility has said it hired subcontractors to handle the demolition.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health and California Public Utilities Commission are investigating the incident.
