Officers spot stolen car, catch alleged 'prolific thief'

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Police said they have caught a "prolific thief."

Officers on Thursday spotted a stolen car parked in the 5000 block of Sea Star Lane, near New Stine and Wilson roads. They went to the house where the car was parked, and 29-year-old Gregory Daniels ran out the back door and jumped over a fence, police said Friday.

Daniels was caught and found in possession of the key to the stolen car, which was equipped with false license plates.

Police said he was also found with "numerous items of suspected stolen property," burglary tools and a key chain with more than 50 keys and remote-door-lock fobs.

Daniels was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and fraudulent use of and access card.

Detectives are searching reports to match recovered property with victims, police said.
