Pilot injured when plane flips on runway at Kern Valley Airport

KERNVILLE, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- The pilot of a small plane suffered a minor head injury Monday afternoon when his plane flipped over after landing at the Kern Valley Airport.

The accident happened just after 3 p.m.

The single engine Cessna Cirrus landed upside down on its roof, according to the sheriff's office. Pilot, 53-year-old Andreas Schippert told deputies he'd just flown in from Bakersfield and the plane stalled upon landing. It flipped over when he tried to restart the engine.

Schippert and his two passengers were able to get out of the Cirrus on their own. But Schippert was taken to Kern Valley Hospital for treatment of a head wound.

An FAA investigator will respond to the crash site Tuesday to start an investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
