The cat had been stuck for a week in a tall pine tree at Niles and Mt. Vernon Avenue, Kern County Animal Services said.
Multiple attempts to rescue the cat, named Piney by the shelter staff, failed until a private citizen with a boom truck came to the rescue Thursday morning.
"We are so thankful that the community came together to help us give Piney that second chance he deserves," Senior Animal Control Officer Tracy Wolfe said in a news release.
Piney will be placed for adoption after a brief hold period. He's in good shape, except for some dehydration, Animal Services said.
