Police: No foul play in case of man burned in car
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Police said Thursday that they haven't found evidence of foul play in the death of a man found dead in a burning car.
The body of 83-year-old Ramiro Mendez was found last weekend inside a burning car at Pacheco Road and Young Street near the Kohl's shopping center in southwest Bakersfield.
Ramiro Mendez lived about 4 miles away on Tivoli Court. According to neighbors, the car on fire belonged to Mendez.
"He drove it every day, it was just like clockwork," said neighbor Jimmy Stevens.
Police spokeswoman Michaela Sims said only, "We are continuing to investigate. At this point there are no signs of foul play. We are awaiting toxicology from the Kern County Coroner's Office."
Police haven't said how the fire started.
