Tuesday was the third day of searching at Paradise Cove. The presumed drowning victim's wife, Dafawn May, identifies him as 29-year-old Michael May.
She said he was all excited about celebrating Father's Day by fishing.
Michael May's foster mother isn't ready to give up hope.
"We pray he's just walking around," said Rosada Hernandez, "not knowing where he's at."
Dive teams were called to the lake early Sunday afternoon. Kern County Sheriff's Lt. Todd Bishop said.
Search-and-rescue officials said they scaled back efforts Tuesday but won't stop searching until they find May.
May's family said he was a proud soldier, who is currently serving in the Army National Guard and stationed at the Armory in Bakersfield.
"He always stood grounded," said May's cousin, Veronica Hernandez. "He never let anything get him down."
The family admitted that the longer the search goes on, the harder it is to hold on to hope.
"There are times," said Hernandez, "where we know reality is setting in."
