Residents: Water district pulled trash from the canal bed, left it on the grounds

{A href=""}BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Residents in one Bakersfield neighborhood said they are fed up with seeing mounds of trash piled up next to where they live.

After calling the city for help with little result, the residents called Eyewitness News.

"The trash it's very unsanitary," said resident Trisha Holloway.

Residents on the scene said Monday that a few weeks ago a large tractor with the word "Delta" on it cleaned out the canal bed, leaving the trash lying on the bank.

The canal is controlled by the Kern Delta Water District. Mark Mulkay, the general manager of the Kern Delta Water District, said Monday that would wouldn't comment on this neighborhood's situation. He said he no longer speaks to the media because of how he has been portrayed in the media over the past 20 years.

Mulkay also said his refusal to do media interviews or publicly address concerns of residents was approved by the water district's board members.
