Suspect named in deadly Oildale stabbing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A man was fatally stabbed Wednesday night outside the Dollar General on Roberts Lane.

Steven Caleb Taylor Corpe, 23, was "in an altercation with another" around 8 p.m., the Kern County coroner's office said. He was pronounced dead shortly after midnight at Kern Medical Center.

The sheriff's office Thursday afternoon named 57-year-old Ronald Burchett as the suspect and said it had developed probable cause to arrest Burchett for murder.

Detectives learned that the fight between Corpe and Burchett was related to a previous fight Burchett had with an acquaintance of Corpe in the nearby McDonald's parking lot.

Anyone who sees Burchett is asked to call the sheriff's office at (661) 861-3110 or send an anonymous text tip to TIP411 (847411). Type the keyword "KCSO" prior to the message.
