Thieves steal from cellphone store, suspects seen on video

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - The two men walked into Extreme Wireless cellphone store on Rosedale Highway and acted like regular customers.

"They told us they were looking for another Verizon wireless," said employee Whitney Hubble, who was was working behind the counter at the time.

After telling the men the address of the store they were seeking, they left the store. But, a short time later, one of the two returned and claimed he and his partner could not find the store and asked if they could get the address written down.

While Hubble and another employee, Brandi Rosso, were doing so, the man walked over to an iPhone 5 display. Surveillance video shows the man yanking the phone so hard off its cord that the whole displays almost topples over.

The man then ran out of the store and got into a waiting car, described as a green Honda. The phone is valued at $660, said Hubble.

This isn't the first time the small business is hit by thieves. On July 31, a woman did the exact same thing.

"She seemed to be under the influence," said Hubble. "So we wanted to keep our distance."

Also caught on surveillance video, the woman is seen taking several accessories valued at a few hundred dollars. Then she yanks a phone off its cord and makes a quick exit and into a waiting vehicle. In this instance, however, the woman grabbed a worthless dummy phone.

Right after the latest theft of the iPhone 5, employees said they called police.

"Nobody from the police has come," said Rosso.

Employees are hoping someone will recognize the suspects in the video and call police at (661) 327-7111.
