Usher irks 4th of July crowds by playing too much Usher
For the first time ever, the music for the national Macy's 4th of July Fireworks were curated by an actual musician -- R&B star Usher. However, his song picks quickly annoyed the crowds, who complained that there he made some poor choices. Chiefly, that he played too much of his own music.
The playlist, which is available on Spotify, also included songs by Rihanna, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton with Miranda Lambert. However, of the 13 tracks, four were songs which were either Usher's own songs, or songs featuring Usher's vocals.
Those in the crowd tweeted their irritation, noting that he "hijacked" Macy's show with his own music. Some fans were also upset by the non-traditional musical choices, including Jimi Hendrix's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Usher has yet to respond to the criticism, tweeting only the following:
"The best part of yesterday's event, for me was looking out over the crowd to see all those faces, people of different ages and races. #MyUSA"
