Action for Austin success shows Kern County's caring spirit

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) The goal of "Action for Austin" was to convince the caring people of Kern County to donate 500 bags of candy by Oct. 25 for children who will be spend Halloween in a hospital.

The candy drive was more successful than the organizers - Austin's parents - had hoped for.

They collected more that 1,100 bags of candy, coloring books and toys for sick children.

Austin's parents have already delivered candy to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles and are in the process of delivering candy to kids in Bakersfield hospitals, the local Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital Central California in Madera.
