      Former NFL coach to speak at Chamber's young professionals event

      BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Former NFL coach Dick Vermeil will be the featured speaker Friday night at the kickoff for the Bakersfield Young Professionals group.

      Vermeil led the 1999 St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl title and tallied a 120-109 record for the the Eagles, Rams and Chiefs in 15 years as head coach.

      The BYP event is 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Bakersfield Racquet Club, 1660 Pine St. Anyone age 21-35 can attend for $15. All others can attend for $25.

      Organizer Lauren Smoot of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce says people can buy tickets through most of Friday by calling (661) 327-4421.

      BYP will provide a new network for Bakersfield's young professionals, people in any industry who want to enhance their local professional experience.

      "We are a group of innovative, fun, committed and proud professionals that will interact through professional development, social events, community service and a mentorship program," Smoot said in a news release.
