Veteran gets back to life with groundbreaking surgery
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Kern County resident and U.S. Army veteran Jim Schneiter has dealt with debilitating back pain after the Humvee he was in was hit with an improvised explosive device in Iraq.
Schneiter said the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs put him on pain medications, and one day he decided he wanted another option.
Schneiter consulted with Los Angeles spine surgeon Dr. K. Rad Payman, who diagnosed severe lumbar disc herniation. Payman performed an anterior lumbar fusion.
Payman and Schneiter joined Eyewitness News "Health Alert" to discuss his surgery and how it's changed his life for the better.
