Investigation finds no info breach at Bakersfield VA clinic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A nearly two-year investigation into a possible security breach at the Bakersfield Veterans Affairs clinic has ended.

The investigation centered on a doctor who was allegedly taking documents with confidential patient information. The incident happened in October 2011.

A security guard confiscated documents from a doctor that contained names, social security numbers and dates of birth of patients.

The VA said it conducted three separate investigations. The administration claimed it found that no medical records were involved, and that the documents being taken by the doctor were patient schedules. The VA said the doctor was given approval to take those documents with him.

The VA would not release the name of the doctor involved but said the doctor is no longer working at the facility.
