Kern County business, ag leaders warn against Medi-Cal bill

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Kern County business and agriculture leaders gathered Tuesday at the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce to speak against AB 880, the "Medi-Cal program costs: large employer responsibility" bill working its way through the statehouse.

The bill would require a large employer to pay the Employment Development Department an employer responsibility penalty for each covered employee enrolled in Medi-Cal based on the average cost of employee-only coverage provided by large employers to their employees, including both the employer's and employee's share of the premiums, according to the legislative counsel's digest. The group at the Chamber said AB 880 would hurt economic recovery.
