Baby's ashes stolen: 'This is like losing her a second time'

{A href=""}BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) When thieves broke into the home of Paula Lopez, they made off with the usual stash of jewelry, electronics and whatever other valuables they could get their hands on.

But, adding insult to injury, they also stole something irreplaceable for Lopez: her baby's ashes.

"I just want my baby's ashes, I don't care about anything else," said a tearful Lopez.

The ashes were stored in a cube-shaped pink-colored urn with the date "7-26-04" written on the side. The ashes are those of Marie Guadalupe, who died in Paula's womb.

Lopez was carrying twins at the time and Marie did not survive. Her sister did and is now 8 years old.

On Jan. 6, Lopez and her children had gone to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for mass. When they returned to their Rosedale-area home, they noticed their garage door was open. Going inside, Paula found her home ransacked. Her heart sank when she discovered the ashes missing.

She is pleading for their safe return, no questions asked.

"I already lost her one time. This is like losing her a second time," said Lopez.

Anyone with information about the ashes or who might be willing to return the ashes is urged to contact the Secret Witness Hotline at (661) 322-4040. Your identity will remain anonymous.
