8 men, including 4 from Bakersfield, indicted in drug ring
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Eight men have been indicted in a methamphetamine and heroin distribution operation.
The alleged ringleader, 33-year-old Jose Luis Zambrano, is from Bakersfield, as are co-defendants Juan Carlos Lopez, Ruben Mojarro and Adalberto Jacobo.
Also indicted Thursday were three Mexican nationals -- Joel Melendez, aka Leonel Rodriguez; Edgar Omar Rodriguez Parra, aka Jesus Burgos Luna; and Alex Castro Portillo -- as well as Manuel Teodoro Aros, of Santa Maria.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says the defendants between March 2016 and this June brought in "large amounts" of meth and heroin to Bakersfield and other areas. They're accused of using intimidation methods in their drug dealings, such as carrying guns and wearing body armor.
Zambrano, Lopez, Mojarro, Aros and Jacobo have been arrested.
The others are fugitives, and the U.S. Attorney's Office provided photos of them.
