Bakersfield police: Man was likely drinking before deadly off-road motorcycle crash

UPDATE: The Kern County coroner's office on April 18, 2017, identified this motorcycle rider as 41-year-old Steven Lee Sauers.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A man died after crashing an off-road motorcycle Sunday night, police said.

The crash took place around 9 p.m. at Calle Lechuga and Via Contento in west Bakersfield.

Police said it appears the man who was riding the motorcycle had been drinking before he failed to observe a stop sign and hit a moving vehicle.

Police also said the man wasn't wearing a helmet, and the motorcycle wasn't equipped with proper lights.
