Bakersfield police urge public not to ring in the new year with celebratory gunfire
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
The Bakersfield Police Department is asking citizens to celebrate the new year safely and not with celebratory gunfire.
Police would like to remind people that when a bullet is discharged into the air, it will come back down. That, needless to say, poses a risk to those in the surrounding areas.
It is a felony to discharge any firearm in a celebratory fashion and is classified as a negligent discharge of a firearm, according to police.
Anyone with information about people who discharge firearms are asked to call police at (661) 327-7111.
