BHS seniors honored for academic excellence

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) College signing day is an event usually held for student athletes, but one Kern County school took the event to an entirely new level to highlight students accepted into college for their academics.

At Bakersfield High School, senior students were honored for getting accepted into a four-year university.

"You can't just quit on school or drop out. You have to have a future, and that's what I want. I want to better myself in the future. I want to be someone," said one of the honored seniors, Rocio Perez.

Principal David Reese said around 530 seniors will walk at graduation this year. Of those, 88 were honored Wednesday for being college bound.
