Blood, platelet and marrow drive gets underway for man fighting leukemia
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Sal Rivera is fighting for his life against a reoccurrence of rare leukemia, and he's teaming with Houchin Community Blood Bank for a blood, platelet and marrow drive.
"Sal’s Blood Drive" runs Thursday, Feb. 1, to Saturday, Feb. 10.
Rivera needs a bone marrow transplant to survive and is looking for his match from someone of Hispanic/Latin descent.
Donations of blood, platelets or plasma can be made at either donor center, 11515 Bolthouse Drive or 5901 Truxtun Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
