Police investigating suspicious death in west Bakersfield

UPDATE (May 9, 2018): The coroner says the cause of death was determined to be accidental from fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl intoxication.

UPDATE: The coroner on Tuesday, April 10, identified this woman as 39-year-old Mellisa Marie Madrigal. Her cause of death determination is still pending the outcome of further testing.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- Officers found a woman dead inside her apartment Sunday night.

Officers were sent to the apartment on California Avenue, near Chester Lane, shortly before 11 p.m. about an unconscious person. The woman was dead when officers arrived.

A suspicious death investigation has been launched.
