Career con man caught in California, police say

PORTLAND, Ore. - A career con man sought by Portland police has been arrested in California.

Police say 73-year-old Nickolas Kasemehas is in custody in Los Angeles County. Detectives are working to arrange his extradition back to Oregon to face charges.

Kasemehas was wanted for allegedly conning people in the Salem area. He'd also been seen in the Portland area. Many of his cons involved schemes around gold, jewelry and loans, according to police.

Kasemehas' criminal history includes cons in San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Portland and many other small cites, police said. He'd been conning people around the country since 1962.
