People headed out to the Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame on Sunday for a special Merle Haggard tribute.

The music legend and Bakersfield native passed away on Wednesday at the age of 79.

Kim McAbee-Carter, the executive director of the Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame, said more than 28 local musicians performed at the event.

"We're trying to make sure each one of them pick a special song in a tribute to Merle Haggard to honor the legacy he has left in Bakersfield," she said.

Vince Galindo was one of the people who sang at the event.

"Merle Haggard is one of the people who have influenced my music, and every one of my shows I always do a few Merle Haggard songs," Galindo said.
