Benito Guzman and his wife Carmen Aguilar went missing from Colorado Springs in 2009 with their then-23-month-old son Emanuel.
According to Colorado Springs police, the parents were under investigation by the state Department of Human Services in connection with an April 2009 incident where Emanuel was severely burned, suffering second- and third-degree burns on both his hands.
After the burning incident, the child was taken into protective custody but released back to his parents as the investigation continued.
The pair failed to appear in court for a hearing to determine if Emanuel's burns were the result of abuse or neglect. An Amber Alert was issued the following day, when police were notified. In 2009, the case became the state's longest running Amber Alert and the first to go unresolved.
Colorado authorities contacted Bakersfield police Wednesday after receiving information that the family could be in the area.
Guzman is 33 years old, 5-foot-8, 180 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Aguilar is 34 years old, 5-foot-6, 140 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
Emanuel Guzman is now 5 years old, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to call either Bakersfield police at (661) 327-7111 or the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7615.
