BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – An inmate died in custody Friday, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

The inmate was found unresponsive after being returned to jail following a court appearance.

The inmate was then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The coroner on Monday identified him as 49-year-old Gavino Rodriguez but didn’t release his cause of death.
