Damage put at $130,000 from home fire
OILDALE, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) An early morning fire Thursday at a home in Oildale caused around $130,000 in damage and threatened nearby properties.
Heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from more than one structure as crews arrived just after 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Huskey Drive, said Brett Grassi with the Kern County Fire Department.
It took crews from both the Bakersfield and county fire departments about 30 minutes to control the fire, as they dealt with complications that included downed power lines.
Three separate buildings on the property were destroyed; the home, an 800-square-foot building and the detached garage.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. But, the county fire department noted that it's important for homes to have working smoke detectors.
