Dead man found in orchards east of Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) A body with obvious signs of trauma was found Thursday morning on an access road between orange orchards east of Bakersfield.

The discovery was made near Neumarkel Road north of Edison Highway. Kern County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ray Pruitt said the man might have been killed at the scene.

A farmworker spotted a car parked on the access road, an unexpected sight, Pruitt said. The farmworker looked into the situation and found the body lying on the access road.

Pruitt declined to say how the man died, though he said investigators have a good idea. The man's name was withheld.

They don't believe the body and vehicle had been in the area for more than a day.

Anyone with information helpful to the investigation is asked to call the sheriff's office at (661) 861-3110 or send an anonymous text tip to TIP411 (847411). Type the keyword "KCSO" prior to the message.
