DUI investigation: Bakersfield man kills passenger in Kings County crash

HANFORD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A Bakersfield man is accused of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, crashing and killing a passenger in Kings County.

Reynaldo Garcia, 41, was driving on Highway 43 in the Hanford area early Monday when he lost control and flipped his vehicle several times, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

A 69-year-old woman, Mary Alice Tarango, was thrown from Garcia's vehicle and killed on impact. Garcia and two other passengers, 60-year-old Job Garcia and 31-year-old Valerie Ramirez, all sustained injuries of varying severity.

Reynaldo Garcia was arrested on suspicion of DUI and will be booked into Kings County jail after he's released from a hospital in Fresno.
