Evacuations ordered for 8 Arvin homes

ARVIN, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- Residents in one Arvin neighborhood were advised to evacuate their homes Tuesday evening.

Kern County officials implemented a mandatory evacuation for eight homes on Nelson Court due to a gas leak from an underground pipeline maintained by Petrol Capital Resources.

The evacuations are precautionary, but county officials said high levels of flammable gas were detected inside homes, so the action was taken to protect residents from a potential explosive atmosphere.

Brett Grassi with Kern County fire said Petro Capital has identified the source of the release and will be working to remediate the hazardous atmosphere in and around homes. Residents have been advised to prepare to be away from their homes for as long as seven days.
