Father seeks to change plea in case of baby's death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Sentencing was delayed Wednesday morning for a Ridgecrest man accused in the death of his 3-month-old son, to allow the father's attorney to petition for a change of plea.

The child, Travion Gabriel Smith-Sims, died of blunt-force head trauma in 2012.

The boy's father, Kylor Lamotte Smith-Sims, was charged with first-degree murder, assaulting a child, voluntary manslaughter and burglary.

He entered a no contest plea in March to the voluntary manslaughter, and the other charges were dismissed.

Smith-Sims wants to retract his plea and head to trial.
