The Kern County Fire Department said it was faced with "heavy smoke and fire" from the end unit of an 8,000-square-foot commercial center. Sebril Outlet, which had been open earlier in the day, appeared to be destroyed, but the fire department said it was able to save about $600,000 worth of property.
The "fuel load and fire progression" proved challenging, and crews exited the building and went into a defensive operation, according to the fire department.
No injuries were reported in the fire. An estimated $200,000 worth of property was destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
